Roborough Pre-School was founded in 1972 by two ladies from our local community who were eager to provide play facilities for the children of local families. It was registered with Social Services on November 9th 1972 and subsequently became a member of Preschool Learning Alliance.
On June 6th 1993 it became a registered educational charity. It has evolved over the years into an established early learning provider for the local community. We now offer high-quality early years learning opportunities to children between the ages of 2 and 4 years.
Our setting is based in the church hall of Roborough Methodist Church, in Roborough Village, with access to a garden and tarmac areas for outside play. We currently have 4 members of staff, all of whom are NVQ level 3 or above. Our staff are passionate about teaching in the Early Years sector having over 30 years of experience collectively in this sector.
We are a smaller setting in North Plymouth with staff who have an exceptionally caring and nurturing approach to support our children’s development and potential. The preschool is a registered Charity and has a committee of Trustees who are responsible for the overall management and organisation of the setting as well as supporting the viability of the preschool through fundraising and social events.
Choosing the right pre-school is a mix of emotions. As well all the necessary professional qualifications our team are all Mums who have had to make a similar choice; making Roborough Pre-School a great place for your child to learn, socialise and have fun.
Hi. My name is Sam, and I am a Key Worker at Roborough Preschool.
I have worked for Roborough Preschool since my youngest children (twins) left the Pre-School in 2018. I have 3 children of Primary school age and first found the preschool when looking for childcare for my twins after my oldest daughters preschool had closed. We instantly fell in love with the preschool and its home from home environment. It and its staff were the perfect matches for my children. It provided that next step in their educational journey but in a small and supportive way providing them with the quality care I wanted for them.
We all fell in love with the place and when they left MY journey began with the preschool. My background is in Primary teaching and I am a qualified Primary teacher, however I needed a job that worked better around my children so I was excited when a job opportunity came up in the setting. I love working for Roborough Pre-School as part of a close team which has a heart for the community of families that we support. As my children attend the local Primary school I often bump into current and past families on the school run and it’s lovely to keep in touch with these families, past our time with them. The relationships we build with these children and their families and its strong community feel is something that I fell in love with as a parent and am passionate about encouraging now as part of the staff.
I have a particular interest and knowledge in SEN (special educational needs) and am a key advocate of supporting children to achieve their very best whatever challenges they may face. Our small, supportive and knowledgeable setting is critical to being able to provide this high quantity level of provision and is something I am very proud that we are able to offer our children. I also love nature and the outside world and am keen to foster a love and wonder within our children for their natural environment. When the spring comes around you will see me carrying in frog spawn and handling butterflies!
I have recently started at Roborough Preschool in January 2024 after seeking a new challenge in early years having come from a nursery background for over 10 years now. I instantly fell in love with the feeling of this preschool as it provides a warm homely feel.
I enjoy the small supportive team it has giving more of a collaborative strong approach to support children more effectively. My background is in nurseries, working with babies up to school-age children where I have been room leader for baby room and pre-school, and I have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood studies.
I have two small children, a one-year-old and a 5-year-old so this role gave me the flexibility to be able to still spend as much time as I can with them as well as having an exciting and meaningful job. I have always been passionate about early years and when this opportunity came up I was excited and drawn to this setting and what it provided. When I came for a look around and interview the staff were so warm and putting me at ease. I love working in a small close net team as I believe we can support and get to know children on a closer level building those special bonds which is key for children to develop.
This setting is somewhere I would love my child to be a part of as it provides everything I would look for in a preschool. My particular interest is messy and creative play as I love to get messy and see children enjoying expressing their interests and emotions through this play. I have a keen love for Julia Donaldson’s books and my favourite is ‘The Snail and the Whale’ as I admire the message it illustrates that anyone, no matter how small they are can achieve great things if they put their mind to it!
Hi. My name is Nicole, and I am a Preschool Assistant and Key Worker at Roborough Preschool. I am extremely passionate about working in childcare.
I have 10 years of experience within a nursery setting; ever since leaving school I have worked with young children & I absolutely love my job, forming relationships with children as well as their families & watching children grow into their individual selves before starting school. I joined Roborough Preschool in December 2022 & I am so happy here.
I first found out about Roborough Preschool when looking for a childcare provider to look after my youngest son when he turned 2 in July 2021. I instantly fell in love with the setting as well as the wonderful staff; the Preschool really is a home from home & the quality of childcare has always been outstanding for my son (I wish I know about this setting when I had my eldest son).
It has been my dream to join this wonderful team & I am so glad it has become a reality.
I have a particular interest in speech & language in which I have taken various speech courses over the years. I find that this setting is a fantastic place to carry out & use the skills that I have learnt over the past 10 years as we have a fantastic planned routine to ensure we have small group circle times at certain times of the day.
My favourite story definitely has to be ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. I feel that this book is so much fun to read especially taking part in the actions with the children.
Hi! My name is Michaela and I am a Preschool Assistant and Key Worker at Roborough Preschool. I am very passionate about working in childcare. I have worked with children and young people for over 15 years now. I have experience in many settings; working in a nursery and a crèche. I have also taught dance and been a Redcoat at Butlins.
I joined Roborough Preschool in April 2023 and have absolutely loved my time here. I am very passionate about the preschool. It has been wonderful to watch the children grow and get ready to start school. I have loved forming relationships with not only the children but the families as well.
I first found the preschool as I live local and heard lots of positive feedback from the community. When I came for my interview I was blown away by the warming atmosphere and how homely it felt. I am so proud to be part of this amazing team.
I have a strong interest in children’s mental health and their emotions and am wanting to expand my knowledge more in the future.
My favourite story book is “The colour monster” as I feel it helped children to understand the different emotions.
